Recipe for Rolled Fondant

It seems like so many people are turning to fondant as an alternative to royal icing or to use as accents to their royal icing creations.

Here is a recipe I use and find wonderful to work with. I am not sure of the source since I think it is a pretty standard recipe.

These are the ingredients you will need.

1/4 cup water
8 cups of sifted powdered sugar
3/4 cup of corn syrup
1 Tbs of gelatin
1/2 cup of Crisco
1 tablespoon of Glycerin
1 Tbs Flavoring

Over a double boiler combine the water and gelatin until it dissolves take it off the heat and add the corn syrup and glycerin. Let it cool to touch.
Add this mixture to the sifted powdered sugar and mix with a greased silicon spoon until it comes together. With hands that have been fully greased with Crisco and a surface that has also been greased, begin to knead the mixture on the surface. I do this all by hand because I understand the feel of the consistency of fondant; soft and pliable.  Continue kneading the mixture ,adding the flavoring also and more Crisco until it comes together and has the feel of smooth fondant.  This may take a good 8-10 minutes Grease the fondant and store in baggy at room temp.
